In a past life I studied Illustration at Harrow Art School and worked in children's publishing,
free-lancing as an illustrator, writer & designer.
I have always considered this to be my job - it's on my passport -
that is up until a few years ago when the recession,
new technologies and cutbacks in schools and library services all
contributed to a general downturn in the publishing world
and work dried up, almost overnight...
But that in turn gave me more time to develop my
interest in felt making, for which most people on the island know me.
My felt designs and practical workshops are well-documented on my blog "FELTING matters..."
The STRICTLY COMMERCIAL exhibition at Quarr Abbey
showed the other side of my working life,
and completed the circle...
I was a commercial artist for many years,
I took a break for a while making felt and teaching,
then all the artwork and books came
together again for this retrospective show in 2017.
